Tulsa King Season 1 - Episode 9

Stallone ends the freshman season of this thoroughly enjoyable brass knuckles comedy in a cathartic episode of team building, leadership, and a betrayal we never saw coming. Tulsa King is easily one of the most entertaining series on streaming.

Tulsa King Season 1 - Episode 9

All nine episodes of Tulsa King are now streaming exclusively on Paramount+. If you need a refresher, take a look back at our weekly episodic recaps, and stick around, because the show has already been renewed for a second season.

Tulsa King is an American crime drama television series created by Taylor Sheridan with Terence Winter showrunning for Paramount+. The series stars Sylvester Stallone, marking his first leading role in a scripted television series. Stallone plays a Mafia capo who just got out of prison and is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he begins to set up a criminal organization. It premiered on November 13, 2022. In November 2022, the series was renewed for a second season.

Sheridan created the series during the COVID-19 pandemic, taking a week to come up with the idea, write the pilot, and recruit Stallone to the project.[12] Some filming occcured in Tulsa on March 29, 2022, at Tulsa International Airport.[13] Most interior filming occurred in Oklahoma City at Prairie Surf Media, which also hosted the production offices for the entire first season; most other exterior location filming also occurred there.[14][15]

The series premiered on November 13, 2022, on Paramount+. The first two episodes of Tulsa King received special linear television airings on Paramount Network on November 20 and 27, serving as a lead-out for the fifth season of Yellowstone.[20][21][22]

This brings Tulsa King season 1 to a swift, mostly entertaining, but undeniably uneven conclusion. Tulsa King really felt like it sped towards its finale. Not only were the last two episodes shorter than most of its predecessors, but the storylines felt rushed and at times inconsistent. This isn't enough to wreck what has been an entertaining, if cliched, show, especially anchored by a compelling leading performance from Stallone.

With Tulsa King season 2 already confirmed, let's hope a little more of the complexity that made Terrence Winter's shows like The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire so intriguing and impactful. Because making Tulsa King more cohesive and nuanced could take the show to another echelon of quality, rather than it just being enjoyable.

The new show premiered with its first episode on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022. The nine-episode season will release one new installment weekly until the finale on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023. While the series is a streaming show, Paramount Network will air the first two episodes on air Nov. 20.

After a member of the biker gang Black Macadam attacks, Dwight asks Mitch if he would be interested in taking on a partner in running the bar. Dwight wants to add live musical performances and put a casino in the establishment. Mitch agrees, and in the season 1 finale, the pair celebrate the grand opening of the Bred-2-Buck Cabaret and Casino.

Tulsa King has already been renewed for season 2, but fans have a while to wait for more episodes. Since Mitch was alive and well in the finale, we expect Garret Hedlund will return for Tulsa King season 2. Hedlund has been friends with Sylvester Stallone since the pair met at a gym nearly 20 years ago.

Episode 2 of "Tulsa King" is titled "Center of the Universe," and it's not just a clever name. In the episode, Dwight wanders through Tulsa and finds himself at The Center of the Universe. He's informed by a local woman that only people standing within the circle can hear what's said inside it. Later in the episode, Dwight tries and fails to reconnect with his estranged daughter Tina (Tatiana Zappardino). Distraught, he goes to The Center of the Universe and confesses he stopped talking to his daughter because it was too hard on him. Only he can hear his tearful apology to Tina.

As a child, Dwight dreamed of the mafia life. In the first episode of the debut season, he recalls his father asking him what he wants to be when he grows up. He laughs at the suggestion that he becomes a barber like his dad and instead insists on becoming a successful gangster, a choice he eventually comes to regret. While Dwight choses a life of crime, his younger brother Joe lived his life more conventionally. Sure, Dwight eventually gains the means to pay for splashy dinners and for Joe's funeral service by being a member of the mafia, but that money can't buy the respect and love of his family.

DECIDER: The way the finale ended was a bit of a surprise, but it we were felt like we were working towards that all season. There seemed to be a push and pull for Stacy, between loyalty to her job and her feelings for Dwight. How did you feel about where Stacy was doing in the finale?

For the second week in a row Ginny & Georgia was the most-watched series on Netflix in Canada. Created by Sarah Lampert, the dramedy was in the Top 10 in 88 countries. Season 2 logged 162.72M hours viewed January 9-15, with Season 1 right behind in 2nd place in Canada, edging out the 11th season of The Walking Dead in 3rd. 041b061a72
